Francisco Gonzalez is the Vice President of Technology at Metalsa’s Commercial Vehicle Business Unit, a global market leader for structural components and frame systems.

Francisco has spent 25 years working in the automotive industry in different segments ranging from passenger car to light trucks to heavy duty commercial vehicles.

After joining Metalsa in 1997 as a structural simulations engineer, Francisco’s career has taken him through product design leadership roles, commercial account management, new business development and post-merger integration (M&A). After serving as director of product innovation, in 2019, he became the global head of technology for Metalsa’s commercial vehicles group.

Francisco holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Monterrey, and master’s degree in automotive systems engineering from University of Michigan-Dearborn. He has served on the organizing committees for the Commercial Vehicles Engineering Congress (COMVEC), hosted by SAE and has held appointments in the International Strategies Committee for the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).

The Metalsa technology team pursues new advancements in heat treatment of structural components, multi-materials assemblies, integrated structural products and smart & flexible manufacturing. Metalsa has demonstrated in the Department of Energy’s Super Truck I & II programs, novel ultra-light weight frame technologies that have pushed the boundaries of truck design. Most recently, Metalsa technology have focused on expanding Metalsa’s manufacturing capabilities for EV rolling chassis assembly.
